About Me

My name is Lynn Delgado and I am a qualified, professional writer and editor. I can help you with any writing where you need to communicate effectively – and that means any writing! After all that’s its core purpose – be it to sell something, give information, to educate or to engage.

Over the years I have worked with businesses, universities and government agencies. I know these sectors and can help you get your message across, whatever the purpose and who ever the audience.

With a career spanning over 25 years, I have written marketing and educational materials, research and technical reports, online content, grant applications, newsletters, evaluation reports, educational guides and government strategies, plans and policies.

Learning to listen

Starting my career as an acoustic engineer, I was lucky enough to work on some amazing global projects including the Sydney Opera House. Through this work I learnt how to:

  • listen carefully to what clients want,
  • help clients clarify exactly what they need,
  • work with clients to develop a clear brief
  • deliver on the brief, efficiently and effectively
  • communicate clearly and frequently throughout the process.

Changing hearts and minds

I then moved to specialising in the field of behaviour change and social marketing, particularly in the areas of social change and the environment. These experiences give me unique insights into how people make everyday decisions, what drives them and what motivates and engages them.

These people are your customers or clients. You need to know and understand them when developing your website, program or information. That’s where I come in.

Originally growing up on a smallholding in Wales, surrounded by mountains and sheep, I have since lived and worked in many parts of the world including Singapore, Spain and South America.

Somewhere along the way I graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Acoustic and Vibration and later a Masters in Environmental Studies. I also have qualifications in Professional Writing and Editing, Project Management, Carbon Management and Teaching English.

I am one of those people who loves, and has skills in, both the Sciences and the Arts. Back in the day my school were adamant that mixing English with Physics and Mathematics was a really bad idea. I’ll never forget being summoned to the principle’s office where I was told, in no uncertain terms, that I would never be offered a place at university if I mixed arts and sciences.  Luckily I was determined and, ignoring them, choose to follow my passions. It has always served me well, whether writing technical reports or explaining technical issues to non-experts. Luckily these days I don’t think young people are asked to make the choice between science or the arts – we have moved on since then.

These days I call Urunga my home, a small coastal village on the beautiful mid north coast of New South Wales, in rural Australia.
